About Dr. Kristen Hughes
Dr. Kristen Hughes is the founder of Safe Haven Pediatrics, a practice born from her vision of restoring the heart of medicine through home-based care. She believes that quality health care, enhanced through modern medical technology, delivered in the comfort and safety of a child's home, is a great option for many pediatric patients - including newborn checks, sports physicals, sick visits, life-style medicine, and behavioral concerns.

Answering Your Questions
Are home visits safe and secure?
Do you take insurance?
Yes. Safe Haven Pediatrics follows rigorous clinical safety procedures and utilizes HIPPA-secure platforms and communications.
We are a direct-pay practice. We do not accept any insurances. We provide detailed invoices to help you receive out-of-network reimbursement from your health insurance carrier. Â

Safe Haven Pediatrics does not participate in or bill Medi-Cal or CenCal Health. If your child is enrolled in Medi-Cal or CenCal Health, please contact the child's assigned Primary Care Provider (PCP) or CenCal Health for covered care rather than schedule with Safe Haven Pediatrics.Â

For urgent problems, contact the assigned PCP or seek appropriate urgent care available through the health plan. For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
How does payment work?
For your convenience we accept cash or credit card (including HSA / FSA). Payment can be made directly through the patient portal during online signup.Â

Will you be my child's primary care pediatrician?
Can I cancel for a refund?
At this time, Safe Haven Pediatrics is limiting services to the appointment types listed on our website. We are not able to serve as your child's Primary Care Provider. We encourage all families to have a medical home and to insure seamless communication we will fax our visit notes to your child's PCP office, unless directed otherwise.
Cancellations made earlier than 1 hour prior to the appointment will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within 1 hour of the appointment are eligible for a partial refund. Cancellations made at the time of the appointment will not be refunded.
Could my appointment be cancelled?
What if my area is not listed?
We make every effort to never cancel an appointment, but should we need to reschedule for any reason and you are unable, we will refund your payment in full.

We reserve the right to cancel any appointments if: a parent/guardian is not present at all times, a private/secure space cannot be provided, parking cannot be secured, and / or there are any concerns to the safety of our staff. Cancellations made for any of these reasons will not be refunded.
We frequently extend our coverage for telehealth appointments. Please contact us directly to verify availability for your specific location. (Must be visiting or reside in California).
What if the provider is running late?
As with any medical practice there are circumstances that force a provider to run late, we buffer every appointment to avoid this from happening. If however the provider is running late, you will receive communication updating you as to the arrival and if more than 1 hour late, you will be eligible for a full refund.
